Tips for Students

The Academic Success Center (Junior Division) advises the following groups of students:
  • Admission by Committee and Engineering and Science students with one developmental course until admission stipulations and/or developmental requirements are completed.
  • Undeclared Majors
  • Dental Hygiene Majors
 
Advising Appointments
  • Check ULink to see who your advisor is and schedule an appointment to meet with him/her during the scheduled semester advising session.
  • Ask your advisor what his/her routine is like for advising (if you should fill out all the forms, etc.).
  • Make a list of questions you would like to discuss with your advisor.
  • Have second choices for classes just in case your first choices are full.
  • Register for classes at your earliest registration appointment time.

Keys to Academic Success

Student Success Workshop
For help with reading, note taking, studying, test taking, managing your time, and general skills needed to be successful in college try this online Student Success Workshop.
 
Don’t Blow Your TOPS
Students must maintain certain requirements in order to remain eligible to receive TOPS. Continuing TOPS students should also attend one TOPS workshop offered in the Fall and Spring semesters to make sure they maintain TOPS eligibility.
 
Upper Division Requirements
A student is classified as a Junior Division student until entry requirements are met for Upper Division. Upper Division Requirements (PDF)
 
Other Resources
The Resource and Referral Guide for Advisors and Students suggests places for students to go for help with tutoring, math skills, writing skills, personal counseling, career advice, loans, getting involved, etc. The Student Guide to Academic Procedures and Resources (PDF) gives students “how to” or “where to go for” information on Changing a Major, Dropping a Class, resigning, changing your address, and various academic procedures, etc.
